The city of Ålesund is rather quiet town – but it gets really lively on two occasions: when a huge cruise ship docks at the harbour and when an adventure racers rush to the finish line.
Ålesund is often called ‘Scandinavian Venice’ as its channels resemble the popular Italian destination – only Ålesund has less tourists and less selfie sticks vendors. Many travel from far just to experience its unique vibe and to enjoy the local Art Nouveau architecture. The best way to explore the city is definitely on kayaks – paddling around during sunset is truly a unique experience.
And that is exactly how our teams experience it as well – paddling by city’s skyline with the finish line in sight. The dock their kayaks and finish their incredible journey with a final kilometer on foot. This section has been designed to go through the city centre so if not too sleepy – athletes can enjoy some of the best sightseeing locations in the city. The finish line itself is located in a beautiful park right next to a statue of Rollo The Viking – a true inspiration for our Vikings!
