The winners of both previous Nordic Islands Adventure Races, the Swedish Armed Forces Adventure Team, feel confident heading into stage 5!
Since the very start, SAFAT has been truly in control. During the second stage, they were briefly challenged by the young team Hamilton but later managed to separate themselves and stayed ahead ever since. Last night they finally stopped for a quick rest and sleep. Malin Hjalmarsson explained their sleeping strategy before the start: “we are planning to sleep much more than our usual 3-4 hours per race – this time we want to sleep maybe around 8 or 9 hours in total”. That is pretty insane when you think about the fact that it is for a race lasting around 4-5 days!!
Swedish Armed Forces Adventure Team is now hiking towards Checkpoint 20 on the fifth stage. This was planned to be a packrafting stage (packraft is a small inflatable boat that athletes carry with them and inflate when needed). However, due to strong winds the race director Micke Hanell has decided to cancel the packrafting part for safety reasons. Therefore the stage 5 is now purely a hiking stage.
